David Foster McAnelly was born, raised and attended elementary and high school in Liberty, graduating from Liberty High School in 1953. He achieved honors in basketball and was selected to both all-district and all-region teams. He obtained his B.S. degree from the University of Kentucky in 1957 and his L.L. B. (law degree) in January 1961, achieving scholastic awards in the areas of Evidence and Ethics.
Mr. McAnelly established his legal office in Liberty after being admitted to the Kentucky Bar in April 1961. He has continue an active practice, except for four years (19987-1991) when he served in Governor Wilkinson’s Cabinet as Chief of Staff in Frankfort. As Chief of Staff for Governor Wilkinson, Mr. McAnelly was actively involved in the Kentucky Education Reform Act serving as Chairman of the Governance Committee. He also traveled extensively with the Governor, participating in the negotiations for sale of Kentucky revenue bonds in Japan to finance road construction and in the expansion of Delta in Northern Kentucky and UPS in Louisville. Mr. McAnelly also represented the Governor on numerous other boards and commissions, including dedication of the USS Kentucky submarine in Connecticut in 1990. Mr. McAnelly now limits his legal practice to real estate, estates and banking.
Mr. McAnelly was elected bo the Board of Directors of the Casey County Bank in January 1969 and was elected Chairman of the Board in 1984, in which capacity he continues to serve.
Mr. McAnelly is a member of th eFirst Christian Church in Liberty where he has served on the Board in various positions and is an elder. He was active in the Kiwanis for a number of years, serving as President of the local club, Lieutenant Governor of the Kentucky-Tennessee District, and as a district officer attending international conventions in both New York and Seattle. He was one of the founding fathers of Hickory Hills Country Club, having served as its President and Secretary-Treasurer and for which he was recently honored.
Mr. McAnelly is married ot the former Renee Weddle and they have three children, Kim McAnelly (Mark) Brumby, Karen McAnelly (John) Wesley, both of St. Petersburg, Florida, and David Craig (Kate) McAnelly of Lexington. They have four grandchildren, two in St. Petersburg, one in Lexington and one in Bowling Green.
