A little more than 200 years ago, a group of Revolutionary War veterans making their way through Kentucky came across a beautiful location at the headwaters of the Green River that they decided to call home.

To them, this place felt like the very freedom they had fought for only a few short years before.  They stayed.  They named their new home “Liberty.”

Although a lot has changed since then, the City of Liberty still reflects the ideals of freedom that its founders valued so highly.

It remains the county seat of one of the prettiest counties in the Commonwealth.  And it continues to be the home of people who value American ingenuity, a hard day’s work a firm handshake, and a cold glass of lemonade on a hot Sunday afternoon.

Liberty is beautifully situated at the headwaters of Kentucky’s famed Green River. It’s a city known for its spectacular scenery, “down-home Kentucky” feel and friendly people.

Lake Liberty is the perfect place to fish, canoe, or kayak. Nestled in the rolling hills just east of Liberty off of Hwy 70, the lake provides a peaceful, quiet destination to decompress & enjoy the beauty of nature.

The City is served by Mayor Steven Brown and a City Council, comprised of 6 city residents. Richard Montgomery, Brian Beeler, Andy Lawhorn, Ben Barlow, Carla Wesley Turner and Micah Smith.  They meet the 2nd Monday of every month at 5:00PM at City Hall.
